Commercial roofing in Golden, CO
Golden is about 25 miles west-northwest of our Centennial office, at the far end of C-470. We repair, maintain and replace roofs on its historic downtown buildings, offices, light industrial space and multifamily and association buildings at the base of the foothills.
Golden's commercial buildings
Golden is a small city with an unusual mix of buildings for its size, packed into a valley between the foothills and North and South Table Mountains.
- Downtown Washington Avenue. The historic core has 19th- and early 20th-century brick commercial buildings, most with low-slope roofs behind parapet walls. Expect layered built-up roofs, old internal gutters, masonry that needs attention where it meets the roof and limited access for equipment on a busy street.
- Campus and institutional buildings. The Colorado School of Mines sits next to downtown, and Golden is the county seat of Jefferson County, with the county government campus on its east side. A federal research campus occupies South Table Mountain. Around them are offices, labs and student housing.
- Industry. Golden has long been home to large manufacturing and brewing operations, and light industrial and flex buildings sit along Highway 93, US 6 and the city's north end.
- Offices and multifamily. Office buildings and hotels sit along US 6 and near downtown, and Golden has a growing inventory of apartments, condominiums and townhome associations.
Permits in Golden and Jefferson County
Inside city limits, the City of Golden's Building Division issues permits and performs inspections. Contractors must hold a City of Golden contractor license before a permit can be issued, and roofing projects require a mid-roof inspection in addition to the final, so the roof has to be accessible to the inspector partway through the job. We handle the license, the permit and the inspection schedule, and include the cost in our proposal. See the city's building and construction page for the current process.
Many properties with Golden addresses are actually in unincorporated Jefferson County, where the county handles permits. Jefferson County requires Class A roof assemblies on buildings in its mapped wildland-urban interface area, and its re-roofing page describes updated wildfire rules for permits applied for from July 1, 2026. We confirm jurisdiction before we price the work.
Foothill weather and wildfire
Golden's location at the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon makes it one of the more demanding places in the metro area for a roof.
- Downslope winds. Chinook and other downslope wind events pour out of the mountains with strong gusts, especially in winter and early spring. Roofs here need secure edge metal, well-attached corners and rooftop equipment that's tied down.
- Wildfire. Golden borders open space and foothill terrain on several sides. Colorado's 2025 Wildfire Resiliency Code calls for Class A rated roof coverings or assemblies in mapped wildfire hazard areas, and wind-driven embers are the main way roofs and gutters catch fire. Noncombustible gutters, clean roof surfaces and sealed openings all help.
- Hail. Storms often build over the foothills and drop hail on Golden before moving east, during the mid-April to mid-August season.
- Snow and sun. Upslope storms bring heavy snow, and the high-altitude sun ages membranes, sealants and coatings faster than at lower elevations.

Golden roofing FAQs
Is our building in a wildfire hazard area?
That depends on the address and on which jurisdiction it's in. The City of Golden and Jefferson County each decide where their wildfire rules apply. We check your property against the applicable map before we specify a roof, and if a Class A assembly is required, it's in the proposal from the start.
Our downtown building is historic. Does that limit what we can do on the roof?
Low-slope roofs hidden behind parapets rarely change how a building looks from the street. If your building is a designated landmark or in a historic district, ask the city whether visible elements such as parapet caps or metal roofing need preservation review. We'll match the scope to whatever approvals apply.
Do we need to be licensed in Golden for our contractor to pull a permit?
You don't, but your contractor does. Golden requires contractors to be licensed with the city before a permit is issued. We take care of that as part of pulling the permit.
A windstorm peeled back part of our roof edge. What now?
Keep people off the roof and away from loose metal below it, then call us. We make temporary repairs to stop water and further wind damage, document the damage with dated photos for your insurer and then price a permanent repair with proper edge securement.
